Welcome to the Hewlett High School Class of '61 Alumni site!

We are now 3 short years away from our 50th reunion and counting. In the meantime you can relive the memories of our 45th reunion on a 58 minute DVD. The video features a 9-minute "Welcome Back Tour" of the high school, a 46 minute version of our "short awards program," and a 3-minute musical tribute at the end.

Thanks to Mark Kolber, our reunion committee chairman, and all the committee members who worked so hard to put on this fantastic event. Also, a special thank you to our toastmaster general, Jim Kole who was as funny as ever.

Price of the DVD is $5.00 to cover cost and mailing. Also available for $5.00 is the 17 minute musical memory video DVD that was given out at the reunion. Click here for a simple form to order the DVD(s).

What's New? Here are the most recent updates. Note, when you click on a name in What's New or the word "bio" on the class roll, an individual biography should open in its own window sized to the biography. If it doesn't open (in Internet Explorer) try: Tools > Pop-up Blocker and click either Turn Off Pop- up Blocker, or change the settings to allow pop ups on this site. If none of these work you can always scroll the list on the Biographies pages.

October 4, 2008: Spam mail has slowed so I enabled the links to the class roll and the biographies sections.  I deleted the actual email addresses in the biography section.  E-mail addresses are still embedded in the link to the names on the class roll.

September 13, 2008: Alan Mears sent in this news: "New York, September 2—Louise Glück has been selected as the recipient of the 2008 Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets. The $100,000 prize recognizes outstanding and proven mastery in the art of poetry.

August 28, 2008:  Sadly, another one of our classmates, Roberta Gluckman Seeman has passed away on August 14, 2008..  Here is a link to the obituary

August 17, 2008: Roy Silvan has been taken off the "missing" list.  Roy discovered the site and wrote to report that he has been living in Spain since 1966. 

June 23, 2008:  We're sad to report that Marsha Perlmutter Flaster became the 31st member of our class to pass away on June 17, 2008.  Her son Jay Flaster emailed the following:

December 31, 1943 - June 17, 2008

She lived in Roslyn, NY since 1977 and is survived by her two children, Caroline Flaster Taverner, 41 living in Barcelona, Spain and Jason Flaster, 38 living in Plymouth, VT. She is also survived by her dear boyfriend of 12 years, Jack Wainer of Roslyn, NY. Mom had been suffering from early-onset Alzheimer's Disease for approximately ten years and passed away peacefully in her sleep last Tuesday.

April 30, 2008: Added new contact information for Fred Lipsky in the bios section.

April 8, 2008: Dick DeVuono wrote to report that Steve Adams passed away on Monday.  Our condolences go out to his family.  Funeral services are being held at Beth Shalom Temple, 640 Lee Rd., Orlando, FL, phone 407 599 1180 on April 10, 2008 at 10:00 AM.  We will post more information about Steve as it is received.

March 12, 2008: Janet Bell wrote: "I continue to be very interested in what the circumstance were, and when, etc. in losing our 29 deceased alumni. Who died in Viet Nam, who distinguished themselves as hero's; World Trade, illness,or accident? Who exactly died recently and what family members did they leave behind; where were they living at the time of death; what were some of their accomplishments?

They were our friends and colleagues and I for one have no leads as how to contact their family and see that they are not given short-shift, but instead honored in our alumni news and next 50th anniversary (Including their pictures).

I am willing to work in any capacity the group thinks would prove useful, and welcome those around the country, and closer to Hewlett to accomplish this. What do you all think? In a bit of sad news Sybil Ozarin reported that Joseph Oropal passed away on November 10, 2007.  Here is a link to his obituary. That now makes 29 classmates who have passed away. Obituary links will be also placed on the class roll.

February 22, 2008: Revised the video of Dick DeVuono's legendary dropkick by adding the TD pass that preceded the kick, and then analyzing the kick in slow motion. All this action described by our mystery announcer.

February 17, 2008: Added a new video of Dick Rosen scoring 4 TD's against East Rockaway H.S. in 1958. See if you can figure out who's doing the announcing.

February 8, 2008: Added a new link on the bottom menu bar to videos which will initially include varsity football clips from 1958-1959-1960. The first clip is Dick DeVuono's dropkick from 1960, which Dick uploaded to YouTube. All of our videos will be embedded on our site pages. Check the links page. Added a link to the Class of 62 site. It's guaranteed to bring back more memories.

January 10, 2008: Added a yearbook picture of our 1958 Freshman basketball team to Dick Devuono's album. Good to see everyone looking so young. It's only been 50 years since we were Freshman..

January 7, 2008: Posted a new album from Dick Devuono with vintage pictures of the Freshman Basketball team from 1958 and various football pictures. It also includes a complete 1960 football program (pdf) and newspaper clippings.
